Your Go-To Guide for Wash Day

In my experience, I’ve never been wrong going “back to the basics”.

Whether it’s in my business, relationships, health, or routines - usually when something feels off or harder than it should, the answer isn’t adding more. It’s simplifying. Drinking water. Communicating better. Cleaning up the systems that are being neglected. Returning to the foundational things you already know work.

The same thing happens behind the chair. When hair feels dull, heavy, oily, dry, or lifeless, most of the time the fix isn’t a million new products - it’s getting consistent with the basics again.

So we’ve laid your Wash Day Routine out for you. One less thing to think about; one step closer to those hair goals!

  1. Exfoliate Your Scalp

Using a fine tooth comb, gently “scratch” your scalp in 1-inch sections to remove build up and dead skin.

While doing this helps loosen and lift away product buildup and dead skin, it also helps stimulate circulation and creates a healthier foundation for your hair growth and extension installs. Just make sure your scalp is completely dry before doing this because wet hair can cause unnecessary tension and breakage.

  1. Scrub Shampoo On Roots Only

Emulsify 1 pump of shampoo between your hands and apply to your root area only, scrubbing to remove dirt and build up.

Before reaching for more shampoo, try adding more water to it first. Shampoo needs water to properly lather which is why rubbing it in your wet hands first helps distribute the product consistently. The suds that rinse from your roots through your mids and ends are more than enough to cleanse the rest of your hair without over-drying it.

  1. Apply Conditioner Mids To Ends Only

Avoid touching your scalp with your conditioner — think 4” from your roots down. However, don’t neglect your face-framing pieces.

Keeping conditioner away from your roots helps prevent excess oiliness and buildup, and keeps extensions from slipping or becoming heavy at the attachment points. Using what’s leftover on your hands, apply this to those front pieces. They tend to take the most heat styling and overall wear, so giving them extra moisture helps prevent further breakage.

  1. Spray Detangler 6” From Hair

To distribute evenly and avoid wasting product, spray your detangler in 3 sections, holding the bottle 6” away from hair.

  1. Brush Hair From Ends, Up

Use a brush for detangling and brush staring at the bottom, working your way up.

Brushing roots to ends only packs tangles tighter. Hold onto your scalp while brushing your ends to prevent breakage from tugging and tension.

  1. Apply Volumizer To Roots, In Sections

Lastly, spray or pump your volumizer directly onto your roots in 2-3 inch sections, combing through before blow drying.

Volumizers need heat and air to activate, so even if you choose to most air-dry, you need to blow dry your roots fully to get the result.
